About Southwind

Southwind is a restricted-access, gated community with approximately 312 homes in Bluewater Bay, Florida.  We are just minutes from Destin's famous white sand beaches. Nestled between the beautiful Choctawhatchee Bay, Grass Lake, and the Marsh Golf Course, most of our 312 homes are golf, lake, or bay front. Southwind has full access to all of Bluewater Bay's amenities, including 18 holes of community golf, a superb tennis complex, a 120-slip full-service marina, over 8 miles of biking and hiking trails, and several swimming pools and playground areas.

We are located in Okaloosa County, home to the Okaloosa County School District, which is consistently ranked among Florida's top school districts. Southwind is zoned for the district's top schools: Bluewater Bay Elementary, a choice between Ruckel and Destin Middle Schools, and Niceville Senior High School.

Located in an unincorporated area with restricted access, it remains prudent to follow standard safety practices, such as closing your garage door and locking your home and vehicles.

Do not call the gate in an emergency; Call 911 or the Okaloosa Sheriff at (850) 651-7400. Southwind pedestrians and cyclists often share the roadway. Therefore, for the safety of all residents, all residents must abide by the posted traffic signs and a maximum speed limit of 20 MPH unless otherwise posted. Although our roads are privately maintained, our neighborhood is patrolled by Okaloosa Sheriff Deputies. We are, however, responsible for our own infrastructure, including the streets and stormwater systems.

Low Speed Vehicles. Golf carts, scooters, and other motorized vehicles may be used within Southwind if operated in accordance with Florida law.

Street Parking. Some of our roads are narrow, and parking on them can create traffic hazards and problems for service and emergency vehicles. Street parking is intended for short-term use (4 hours or less); overnight parking is not authorized in Southwind.  All street parking is permitted only under State/and Local Law, our Southwind Rules and Restrictions, and at all times with the flow of traffic.

Fire Safety. In the event of a fire, the fire department must be able to find the nearest fire hydrant immediately. Please keep the areas surrounding them clear at all times.
